Panthers take second in tournament

Crown Point claimed second place in the Johnsburg Tournament in boys basketball play.

The Panthers fell in the championship game to the host school, 42-41, Dec. 6.

Crown Point trailed by nine points in the second half, but rallied within a bucket with seconds to play. The Panthers had a chance to tie the game, but made just one of two free throws.

Tony Rodriguez and John Budwick each had 10 points for Crown Point.

Crown Point won the opening round game, beating Wells, 73-27, Dec. 5.

The Panthers broke the game open with a 21-3 run in the second quarter and led at the intermission, 33-12.

Rodriguez scored 18 points, Will Glebus 17, Budwick 15 and Mac Kiely 11 for the winners.

Rodriguez and Budwick were named to the all-tournament team.

Sentinels third

Ticonderoga defeated Corinth, 34-28 in the consolation game of the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament in boys basketball action in Glens Falls Dec. 6.

The Sentinels trailed by seven points in the closing minutes, before rallying to win behind Evan Glading.

Glading, who finished with 11 points, hit a pair of key hoops to spark the Ti comeback.

In the opening round, Ticonderoga lost to Greenwich, 56-53, Dec. 5.

Trailing by 12 points in the second half, the Sentinels rallied but couldn't catch the Witches.

Jake Kelly scored 14 points and Jake Kelly 13 for Ti.

Mountainside 59, Latham 49

Mountainside Christian Academy topped Latham Christian Academy, 59-49, in boys basketball play Nov. 25.

Uriah Harvey tallied 19 points to pace the Schroon Lake-based Vikings.

John Andryuk added 12 points for the winners.

Minerva-Newcomb 53, Schroon Lake 47

Schroon Lake lost to Minerva-Newcomb, 53-47, in overtime in Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference boys basketball action Dec. 2.

The Mountaineers, who closed the game on a 10-4 run, were paced by Kevin Yandon's 28 points and 18 rebounds.
