Lake George girls launch season with two victories

LAKE GEORGE - The Lake George High School girls basketball team has launched their 2008 season with two wins and solid performances from its players.

Dec. 5, senior Meagan Stover and sophomore Brittany Baker each scored 13 points, leading their team in a win over Adirondack League rival Hartford 54-38.

Coach Rob Tefft said the team has great prospects, because they continue to improve every day in practice.

"Our kids are playing well together, and our defense is working hard right now," he said. "Meagan Stover is doing quite well and we're getting good minutes out of the sophomores."

In the Hartford game, the Warriors overcame the hot hands of Tanager Kayla Casey - who hit four three-pointers - and teammate Miriam Nestle who matched her score at 12.

Adding crucial points for the Warriors were junior Sarah Anderson with 11, and senior Katie Flatley and sophomore Caroline Murphy had four apiece. Assisting were junior Maggie Miele sinking a three-pointer, sophomore Kelly Flaherty with one field goal, and senior Brittany Jones scoring a foul shot. Baker's 13 points included two three-point shots.
