Carnival needs additional funding for 2009

SARANAC LAKE - The Winter Carnival Committee is working diligently to find new sources of funding for the 2009 Winter Carnival.

In anticipation of funding cutbacks by donors, which are already being seen due to theses difficult economic times, Winter Carnival Committee members are continuously evaluating each budget item.

"The important element here is to make careful cuts so as not to compromise this long time - now 112 year-old - traditional event," said Katee Fobare, a member of the Carnival committee.

A recent appeal for the community to come together and help make up the shortfall in funds has been quite successful. According to Don Duso, Winter Carnival chairman, a number of organizations and individuals have come forward to offer contributions.

"People have even stopped me on the street to offer a contribution pledge," said Duso. "We know that these are tough economic times for our residents and, even so, it never fails to amaze me how everyone sacrifices when it comes to supporting this community.
