Sister City's craft fair to feature local items

SARANAC LAKE - There will be an international flair at the upcoming Christmas Market in Saranac Lake's sister city of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Qu bec as the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce (SLACC) will represent the Saranac Lake Sister Cities Association on behalf of the Village of Saranac Lake.

The village is twined with Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts and Entrains-sur-Nohain in Burgundy, France. This is the first time that Saranac Lake will have a presence at Sainte-Agathe's version of Sparkle Village Arts & Craft Fair.

"We are very excited to bring information and items representing Saranac Lake to Sainte-Agathe," said SLACC executive director Sylvie Nelson. "It gives us a great opportunity to feature our beautiful region, products and peak our sister city's residents' curiosity about our region while reinforcing ties that go back to the tuberculosis era."

The event is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 13 and Sunday, Dec. 14 at the Place Lagny in Sainte-Agathe's downtown district.

"There are actually two phases to their Christmas Market," Nelson said. "The first weekend, Dec. 6 and 7, features local food products. The following weekend, when we will be there, concentrates on bringing arts and craft products to the attendees."

The Chamber's booth will include a computer presentation highlighting the natural beauty of the Adirondacks, as well as products typical to Saranac Lake and the Adirondacks.

"We are also taking this opportunity to highlight Saranac Lake as a tourism destination," Nelson said. "Let's just say that I plan on brining a few cases of our beautifully designed visitor's guide."

For more information or to have products featured at the event, please contact the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce at 891-1990 or by e-mail at info@saranaclake.com.
