Schroon to welcome holidays

SCHROON LAKE - The 23rd annual Old Tyme Christmas celebration will be held in Schroon Lake Saturday, Dec. 13.

"The holiday spirit will fill Main Street from one end to the other," said Joanie Cunningham, chairwoman of the celebration, exclaimed.

The annual holiday celebration is sponsored by the Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce.

The annual Christmas Community Bazaar held at the Schroon Lake Community Church Center will kick things off. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Schroon community Christmas tree will be lit at Fountain Park on Main Street at 5 p.m. Joanies Goodies, Flanagan's Pub & Grill, Schroon Lake Place and The Towne Store have donated lights to decorate the trees in the Fountain Park.

"The lighting of the park will make a spectacular welcome for all who drive or walk down the Main Street of town," Cunningham said.

Following the tree lighting, the celebration will continue with the Living Nativity Walk down Main Street to Our Lady of Lourdes Church.

The arrival of Santa at the Strand Theater will follow at 5:30 p.m. Santa will visit with the children and have his picture taken with them.

"We have an exciting evening planned for everyone this year," Cunningham stated. "Main Street will be abuzz with activities, from the Grand Union to the bridge."

Local performers will provide entertainment throughout the evening at Joanies Goodies & Caf , The Morningstar Bistro and The Towne Store.

Children's activities will be offered at the Schroon Lake Senior Center, The Towne Store and Joanies Goodies & Caf .

The children's activities and performances begin at 5:30 p.m.

Horse and wagon rides will be available on Dock Street at Fountain Park.

The Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce will once again hold its Adirondack Baskets Raffle at the chamber office on Main Street. Tickets can be purchased at the chamber beginning at 10 a.m. on the day of the celebration, with the drawings to be held at 8 p.m. at the chamber.

The Strand Theater will show a Christmas movie at 8 p.m. with a discounted ticket price of $5.

"The Old Tyme celebration is certain to bring holiday cheer to all who attend," Cunningham concluded.
