PAUL SMITHS - The results have been announced for the Arts Council for the Northern Adirondacks and the Adirondack Park Visitor Interpretive Centers' 19th annual Artistic Interpretations of the Environment Juried Art Show: Into The Light. This exhibit is a cooperative effort betweenACNA and the Interpretive Center at Paul Smith's and will be open to the public, Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Feb. 15, 2009.
Many people were inspired by this year's theme with over 80 entries. Twenty-eight pieces were chosen and are now on display. This year's jurors, Mavis Miller, a photographer and the Gallery Director at The Lake Placid Center for the Arts and Dr. Jennifer Small an Optometrist from Eye Peek in Lake Placid, had a challenging time choosing the work that would reflect the theme and make a cohesive presentation. The results are as follows:
•Winner of first place for 2-D media was: Jeanne Danforth for her work titled "Shortly Winter."
•Winner of second place for 2-D media was: Linda Sweeney for her work titled "Changes."
•Winner of first place for photography was: Eleanor Sweeney for her photograph titled: "Evening on the Beach."
•Winner of second place for photography was: Barry Lobdell for his photograph titled: "Last Journey."
•Honorable mentions went to: Roger E. Hyndman for his piece titled: "Buttermilk Falls VT" and to Sally J. Smith for her piece titled: "Red Leaf Form."
