Reduce, reuse, recycle - and swap

LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid Center for the Arts is holding an Artist & Craft Supplies Swap Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009 to help creative folks to clean-out and start fresh. Reduce your stores of arts and crafts supplies and trade for items to start newly inspired projects.

The swap is modeled after local plant swaps with a point value given to items brought in for trading. The organizers will determine the point value of the supplies and the "trader" will receive a Points Card with their allowable trading points.

All items must be checked in between 8:30-10:30 a.m. The SWAP is 10:30-11:30 a.m. and is open only to those with a SWAP Points Card. After all trading is completed the items still available will be sold to the public until 1:00 p.m. with the proceeds to benefit the LPCA Workshop Program or donated to local arts programs.

SWAP items may include but are not limited to: painting and drawing supplies, fiber art supplies (knitting, sewing, weaving, felting, rug making, etc); printmaking and stamping; scrap booking; beadwork and jewelry making supplies; basketry; art books; patterns; frames; etc. All SWAP items must be in good usable condition and the organizers may not accept some items and/or hazardous materials at their discretion.

"The SWAP is an idea that I have had for awhile - sometimes my own supplies simply overwhelm me with creative intentions gone awry. I thought if only I could pass my supplies along to someone else and start fresh," said Heidi Roland, SWAP organizer.
