It's time for "Lights On"

NORTH CREEK - The spirit of the holiday will be rekindled this year with the 2008 "Lights On Celebration and Main Street Christmas Parade."

Now in its 18th year, the annual event is sponsored by North Creek's Main Street merchants and the Gore Mountain Chamber of Commerce.

Using locally available traditional white holiday lights, natural roping, and festive red bows, area businesses are encouraged to help celebrate the season together while welcoming visitors to this special community.

While the event officially launched Dec. 4, the festivities will get into full swing Friday, Dec. 5 with the Community Tree Lighting and Candlelight Service in North Creek's Main Street Park (across from the Copperfield Inn).

At 5 p.m. the Methodist Church Carrilon will ring, marking the beginning of the Christmas season. Holiday caroler's will entertain the crowd followed by a candlelight "prayer for peace and healing," and the playing of Taps in memory of those who are no longer with us.

Following the service, Santa and Mrs. Claus will greet the crowd and invite them for a visit to the Owens House Gallery for entertainment and refreshments.

Various Main Street merchants will be hosting open houses and special offers - including the North Creek Fire Department's free spaghetti dinner and open house.

On Saturday, Dec. 6 the Friends of Santa will host their final Holiday Sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Wevertown Community Center. All of the event's proceeds will be donated to local charities.

At noon on Saturday, join the community for a Lights On Christmas Parade down Main Street. Everyone is cordially invited to participate in this locally famous event. The parade will step-off from the North Creek Fire House, travel along Main Street and loop past the Adirondack Tri-County Nursing Home to end in front of the Town of Johnsburg Highway Garage.
