WARRENSBURG Students enrolled in grades from pre-Kindergarten to 12th grade at Warrensburg Central will be welcomed back to school Wed. Sept. 3 by teachers and staff, school officials said this week. For students in grades Kindergarten through 6, the school day begins at 8:10 and ends at 2:45 for bus students and 2:50 for those who walk to and from school. The front circle area of Warrensburg Elementary has been redesigned during the summer. As a result, when parents enter the front circle on James St., they can either drop their child at the curb or park in the designated parking lot and walk their child in. It is expected that the front circle area will be congested on the first day of school, so parents are urged to park on either Elm St. or Library Ave. for easier access. All parents and students must come in the building through the main front entrance. For safety reasons, no student should be dropped in the back of the school. That area is for use by school buses and staff only. New this year is the universal pre-kindergarten program. There are two sessions held daily, the first from 8:10 to 11:00, and the afternoon session from 12 noon to 2:50 p.m. However, the first day will be a modified day to help transition the pre-k students into their new classroom. On Sept. 3, the morning session will meet from 8:10 to 10 a.m. and the afternoon session from noon to 1:50 p.m. Students at the Junior-Senior High School start their day at 8:02 a.m. Students are to report to their first-period class Sept. 3, except for 7th and 8th graders, who will meet in the cafetorium for a brief assembly. A picnic for 7th graders and their parents is also scheduled for Tues. Sept. 2, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the high school. Student schedules were mailed Aug. 28 and 29, and they should be brought to school on the first day. If changes are necessary, guidance counselors will be available Sept. 2 to make the necessary adjustments. Again this year, a shuttle bus will transport students who want to walk to the elementary school and then get bussed to the high school. This shuttle bus departs from the rear of the elementary school each morning at 7:40 a.m.. In the afternoon, a shuttle will transport high school students to the elementary school at 2:25 p.m. and again at 3:05 p.m. Breakfast and lunch prices have increased this year. Breakfast is $1 and lunch is $1.50. If parents believe they qualify for free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch, they should complete the application form in the front of the Parent-Student Handbook, which each student will receive on the first day of school, and return the application to the school business office as soon as possible. Ongoing construction at the elementary school wont interfere with school activities, Warrensburg Superintendent of Schools Tim Lawson said this week. All the construction work will not be finished prior to opening, but student areas will be safe for students and staff to return, with work proceeding in areas where students are not present, he said.
