ATV Club members love local parades

WEST RUTLAND The West Rutland ATV Sportsman's Club received community kudos for attending several local parades this season. They have been recognized by community leaders and others for their sincere expressions of patriotism and national unity. During this years the Fourth of July weekend, according to club member Sherry Smith, the group participated in the Poultney and Brandon parades. As a result, the club placed handsomely in both events in their respective float competition events. At the Poultney parade, ATV club members received a much deserved $25 prize for Best Depicted Float. The group also received mention for two additional awards. West Rutland ATV Sportsman's Club floats entered into this years July 4 parades presented full honors to Vermonts troops. One float was a creative replica of the famous National Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington, D.C. The other float sported cutouts of soldiers representing each branch of the U.S. Armed Services. Club riders also decked out their all-terrain vehicles in patriotic red, white, and blue for the 2008 holiday season. Participants rode in precision formations and didnt try to show off or upstage other floats. Our intention is to show respect and gratitude for our countrys soldiers and what they stand for, Smith said. At the Brandon parade the club also won a $50 prize for its float entries. Smith said WRASC thanks all members who took time during their holiday weekends to attend the parades and work on the floats. We would also like to give special thanks to the Gagnon family for their dedication to the parade events, she said. We would also like to thank Shawn Lasage, the parade coordinatior, and Jim Woods for all the hours of work they spent on making the floats a special treat for all to see. It was great to see the crowd clap, wave, and salute our floats as they passed by. We hope to offer a great show for next parade season.
