Act of destruction

To the editor: Last Friday night someone, or possibly a group of people, snapped the trunks of the Princeton elm and honey locust trees that had recently been planted on Elm Street near Gregs Market. It takes real effort to snap the trunk of one three- to four-inch green tree, let alone two. Clearly this was not an accident, but a deliberate act of destruction. Frustration, anger, sadness, discouragement - Im not sure which of these most accurately represents my feelings as I write this letter. Frustration that the investment of time and money to provide shade and beauty for future residents have come to naught; anger at the stupid behavior of the perpetrators; sadness and discouragement at the lack of respect for the community in which we all live. A police report has been filed. If you have information regarding the destruction of these trees please call 802-388-3191. Peg Martin Middlebury Tree Warden
