King's Garden to host class

TICONDEROGA There will be another class in the Hands-on Horticulture at the Kings Garden series Tuesday, Aug. 26. Having just finished lavender care, pest identification and iris division, Heidi teRiele Karkoski, Fort Ticonderoga landscape curator, will offer Floral Design and Grapevine Wreath-making. Betty Rettig will teach a floral design primer at 10:30 a.m. at the Mars Education Center at Fort Ticonderoga. The beginners class will teach cutting and preparation of garden blooms, container selection and the fundamentals of design. During the two-hour session participants will create a design to take home using flowers from the Kings Garden. Participants are asked to bring scissors and their favorite small or medium-sized glass or ceramic container or basket with liner. Flowers, greenery, floral foam and instruction are provided. Another class will make a grapevine wreath with all the trimmings on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 10:30 a.m. in the Kings Garden, rain or shine. All materials and instruction will be provided. Cost for each program is $20 or sign up for both at the cost of $35. Admission to Fort Ticonderoga and the new Mars Center exhibit is included with the program price Space is limited and advance registration is required.
