PLATTSBURGH The community is invited to attend a Family Fun Day Cookout Thursday, Aug. 21, in The Ted K. Center parking lot, 8 Tyrell Ave. The event, which will include free hot dogs and water, will be held from from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Representatives from various government and community agencies will be on hand to provide information. The agencies include Champlain Valley Family Center, Clinton County Department of Health, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York, Literacy Volunteers of Clinton County, North County Cultural Center for the Arts, Stop Domestic Violence, and the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program. In addition, the Joint Council for Economic Opportunity of Clinton and Franklin Counties Inc. will conduct a back-to-school drive to collect school supplies for less fortunate families in Clinton County. The public is encouraged to donate basic new school supplies crayons, pencils, pens, notebooks, paper and backpacks. A representative from Fidelis Care will be available at the event to answer questions and enroll eligible residents in free or low-cost health insurance. All children younger than 19 living in New York are eligible through New York States Child Health Plus. Adults ages 19 to 64 may qualify for low-cost health coverage through Family Health Plus. Those wishing to apply for enrollment in Fidelis Care Child Health Plus or Family Health Plus, must bring proof of age, income and address.
