Diamond Point food fest slated

The inaugural A Taste of Diamond Point community Fun Day, to include food, entertainment and activities for children, will be presented Sat. Aug. 23 by the congregation of the Diamond Point Community Church. Eleven Diamond Point area restaurants will be offering samples of their cuisine from noon to 2 p.m. under tents set up on the grounds of the church located on Lake Shore Dr. Church members will be selling tickets for $1 each, with which tasters will purchase food samples. Establishments in the immediate vicinity of the church have been invited to join in the two-hour event which organizers hope will bring attention to the activities available at the seasonal church, and also provide a culinary festival highlighting area businesses. Everything is a dollar! What a great idea, event committee member Lonnie Lawrence said this week. This is something everybody can afford. As an added bonus, the businesses will be competing for a cash prize for collecting the most tickets. Tasters can vote for their favorite places by purchasing samples from their booth. Participating businesses include: the Lake George Club, Diamond Point Grille, Boathouse Restaurant at Cresthaven, Inn at Erlowest, Rays Helova Deli, Stable Deli, Canoe Island Lodge, Lone Bull, Rain Tree, Tired Johns, and Stone Manor Restaurant at Blue Water Manor. Racing fans that plan on attending the Travers Stakes at the Saratoga Race Course that afternoon will have time to attend A Taste of Diamond Point as well. Historically, post time for the 139-year old race is approximately 6 p.m. The fund-raising event for the 132-year-old house of worship will also include outdoor carnival-type games with prizes for the children, live musical entertainment provided by Ray Alexander, Matt Finley and the Denise Jordan Finley duo. Tickets will also be for sale for $1 each for raffle drawings every half-hour during the event. Soft drinks will be sold by church members for $1 as well. This will be a rain or shine outdoor event and is open to the public. To contact the church please call the parsonage at 668-2722 and leave a message or call 644-2925 for more information.
