LAKE PLACID The final Lake Placid Sinfonietta concert of the 2008 season will take place Sunday, August 10 at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts. The concert will feature former concertmaster Dorothy Happel as Guest Artist and will begin at 7:30 pm. Happel served as concertmaster of the Lake Placid Sinfonietta for many years until her retirement in the fall of 2005. Since that time she has maintained an active schedule of performances that include chamber music and solo recitals. Happel will perform the dramatic Violin Concerto No. 2 in D Minor, Op. 22 by Henri Wieniawski. Also on the program is the challenging and well known Symphony No. 2 by Beethoven, and the delightful Overture from Rosamunde by Franz Schubert. As is traditional, the last piece the orchestra will play will be the Presto-Adagio of the Farewell Symphony by Haydn, which features each individual musician extinguishing a candle as they leave the stage. Tickets are $22 and available at the LPCA box office, 518-523-2512, visa/MC accepted. Students 18 and under can receive a free ticket by completing a simple form available at the box office.
