Employee training funds available through SUNY grant

SARANAC LAKE North Country Community College and Clinton Community Colleges announced a joint grant from SUNY to community colleges to fund employee training in businesses and organizations in Essex, Franklin and Clinton Counties. Employee training can be scheduled at the business location or at other locations with a trainer of the businesss choice. One Work Source staff will partner with the colleges to assist businesses in identifying training needs. Past trainings have covered a wide range of topics including customer service, manufacturing processes, human resource issues such as supervisory issues, medication administration, leadership, computer skill building but are not limited to these topics. A popular training is the HACCP Serv-Safe certification course required for food service providers. Training priorities are to prepare new businesses to open and for existing businesses to increase productivity and retain jobs. This years program features small businesses that might not otherwise afford staff training. In previous years, over $130,000 has been distributed regionally. Participants include healthcare, manufacturing, hospitality, and nonprofit organizations. Training can take place between October 2008 and May 2009. To be included in the first round of training, please call or e-mail the college contacts indicated below no later than August 18. Funds are limited but requests can be received through the fall.
