ETC presents "Three Oranges"

ESSEX Essex Theatre Company, Inc. announces the puppet theatre production of Three Oranges, a play for children and the young at heart, written and directed by Kathy Poppino, opening at the Masonic Lodge in Essex, NY, on August 14 at 7:30 pm. All tickets are $5 for Opening night. Other performances are August 15, 16, 21, 22, 23 at 7:30 p.m. and August 17 and 24 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. The play, originally written for Rag n Patch Players, is based on a folk tale dramatized by Italian playwright Carlo Gozzi (17201806) in a piece that was the basis for Prokofievs opera, The Love for Three Oranges. The plot line uses many stock characters typical of the commedia delarte tradition: the Lovers, the Doctors, a Fool, Witches, a Wizard, a King, a Prince, Princesses, and an Advisor. Poppino wrote her version of the tale, transforming it for children, for a tour of Schenectady, NY parks. It was subsequently produced at Nathaniel Hawthorne College. The show is sponsored by the Westport Marina and the Galley Restaurant. Tickets may be reserved by calling 524-7708 or by e-mail to tickets@essextheatre.org.
