ESSEX They call him Captain Dan. Photographer Daniel Doyle will be the featured artist in the exhibition opening August 15 at the Adirondack Art Association gallery in Essex. In the years when he was Captain on the Lake Champlain Transportation ferries, Doyle knew the many moods of the lake from calm, colorful dawn to chill fog; from wind-driven waves, to the night ringed with points of light on shore. He now captures the atmosphere of the area on film, using long exposures to find colors in near darkness and high shutter speeds to freeze motion. Doyle makes a point of composing his photos while he is out with his cameras. All of the prints he exhibits appear as they were captured with no cropping or digital manipulation. In this show, entitled "Celebrate the Visual World," artist members of the Adirondack Art Association will also be showing oil paintings, watercolors, photography, jewelry, hand-crafted glass, and rustic furniture. There will be an opening reception from 6-8 p.m. on August 15. The show will run until September. For information, phone the gallery at 963-8309.
