Popular ELCS athlete suffers heart attack

ELIZABETHTOWN A popular Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School student experienced a heart attack the evening of Tuesday, April 29. Brock Marvin, 14, suffered a myocardial infarction April 29 while at his home. Marvin, an eighth-grader at ELCS, was taken to Elizabethtown Community Hospital before being airlifted to Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, Vt. Marvin is the son of Smitty Marvin and Darlene Mitchell. As of Wednesday afternoon, Brock was stable but in the intensive care unit, said Brocks uncle, Ed Marvin. Family members and friends gathered at the hospital to await updates on his progress. Brock Marvin is an avid athlete, having earned a place on the varsity soccer and baseball teams as an eighth grade student, along with playing junior varsity basketball. A talented goalie, he participates in the Vermont Olympic Development Program for soccer. Ed Marvin said the family appreciated the immense amount of support from the community. ELCS Superintendent Gail Else said Brock Marvin is held in high-regard by members of the school. The whole ELCS school community and school family is holding him in their thoughts, and wishing him a speedy recovery, said Else. Else said staff were asked to assist students who are having difficulties. Students have created get-well cards, and were supporting each other, she added.
