New England farmers study local land

SHELBURNE A group of 20 farmers from Vermont, Massachusetts and Ontario were at Shelburne Farms last week for a two-day workshop called Digging Deeper into Farm Education. The farmers represent farms, large and small, that do agricultural education with informal programs or formal school field trip programs and are eager to learn more from Shelburne Farms Project Seasons curriculum. The workshop provided fresh ideas and an opportunity to share successes and challenges of teaching on the farm. Shelburne Farms educators Erica Curry and Susie Marchand led the program. They spent time at the dairy and hiked through the forest to the top of Lone Tree Hill. They also spent time in the Market Garden and the Childrens Farmyard.
