Fire commissioners training school coming to Keeseville this Saturday

KEESEVILLE The Association of Fire Districts of the State of New York will conduct a required training course for fire commissioners this Saturday, April 26, at the Keeseville Volunteer Fire Department station, 8 Pleasant St. The class will start at 8 a.m. The two facilitators for the class are William Young, Counsel for the State Association of Fire Districts, and Kenneth Hoffarth, Education Coordinator and Past President for the State Association. Starting this year, newly-elected, re-elected, newly-appointed or re-appointed fire commissioners are required by law to complete six hours of training at an accredited training course conducted by an approved facilitator within 270 days of the election or appointment. Certificates will be given out to all commissioners who complete the entire six hours of training. The course is approved by the Office of the State Comptroller and will cover the six one-hour subjects required by the new law. The certificate will be good for five years. The course will cover duties and responsibilities of a member of a board of fire commissioners as well as elections and the entire financial side of the board. The course is the only accredited course being offered in the immediate area as of this time. Lunch and refreshments for the breaks will be provided. Advanced registration fees are $125 for members and $150 for nonmembers of the state association. The fees are $25 more at the door. If a district desires or needs to send more than one commissioner to the class, the fees for the second or more commissioners in advance are $25 for members and $50 for nonmembers of the state association. Registrations at the door are an additional $25, the same as the original commissioner attending the course. For more information or to obtain application material, contact Leon H.
