Ticonderoga thinclads expect success

TICONDEROGA The Ticonderoga boys track team figures to be in the mix for the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference and Section VII championships this spring. The Sentinels return a strong nucleus from last springs 3-3 squad, including state cross country champion Lee Berube. Our strength is our team balance, Coach Walt Thorne said. We should be competitive in every event. I expect our boys team to be right in the mix of the section race this season. Berube leads the veteran team. A section champion at 1,600 and 3,200 meters, Berube won the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class D cross country championship last fall. Hes one of the top distance runners in the state. Rounding out the distance team are Jared Best, Brandon Carberry, Alex Durkota, Mike Lonergan, Jarrod Sammis, Alex Walters, Jay Berube, Joshua Cook and Kevin Densmore. Sammis and Carberry will also jump. Sprinters and jumpers include Michael Pockett, Matthew Nolan, Maxwell North, David Cook, Jonathan Granger, Dustin LaFrance, Pat Lonergan, Dustin Scott, Dylan Scott, Michael Barber and Kelly Dunn. Heaving the shot and discus will be Kane OConnor, Derek Brighenti, Andrew Burrows, Shane Graser, Joseph Guerin, Christopher Maldonado, David Mallon, Michael Thompson, Jesse Clark, Francis Cox and Josh Huestis. Assisting Thorne with the coaching duties this spring are Jay Wells in the distance events, Phil Kneller in the throwing and jumping events and Ellie Berube in the sprints and jumps. Sentinel schedule April 29..Lake Placid May 6....at AVCS May 8.....NCCS May 15...at Saranac May 20...Seton May 22...at Beekmantown May 27...at ELMW Lack of depth will be a challenge for the Ticonderoga girls track team this spring. Our weakness is the lack of numbers, Coach Walt Thorne said. With only one new athlete out for the outdoor team we will be hard pressed to have athletes in every event. The good news for the Sentinels is that have have experience. Our strength will lie in our senior leadership with several girls with at least three years of experience, Thorne said. Lexi Reale, Emily Palmer, Ainsley MacAlpine, Elsie Phillips, Amanda Powers and Rachael Ward will lead our team. Tis sprinters and jumpers figure to fare well. They include Sarah Bennett, Shannon James, Ainsley MacAlpine, Katherine McBride, Emily Palmer, Elsie Phillips and Lexi Reale. Emily Ezzo, Amanda Powers and Rachael Ward will lead Ti in the throwing events. In the distance races the Sentinels will race Amber Perkins, Britni Phinney, Samantha Plude, Colleen Walls, Brittany Holt and Rianna Millington. Walls and Plude will also throw. Assisting Thorne with the coaching duties this spring are Jay Wells in the distance events, Phil Kneller in the throwing and jumping events and Ellie Berube in the sprints and jumps.
