TICONDEROGA On the Ice Station, the 14th in a series of 18 special postal pictorial cancellations, will be on sale Tuesday, April 22. The cancellation, part of the Champlain 2009 series, will be on sale at the Ticonderoga post office 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cachets featuring winter recreation in the area will be available. Featured will be ice boats from the early 20th Century, hockey and the old ski train that made stops in the region. The special pictorial cancellation will also be available for 30 days after the initial sale at the Ti post office. They can be ordered by mailing a request along with a stamped, self-addressed envelop to On the Ice Station, 169 Champlain Ave., Ticonderoga 12883. The series of pictorial cancellations is in tribute of the the 400th anniversary of Samuel de Champlains discovery of Lake Champlain in 1609. Each of the cachets has been designed by Kama Ingleston of Crown Point. If past cancellations are an indication, the newest will be popular, said Linda Osborne, Ti post master. Weve sold out of all the others, she said. There are none left and we still get requests. We dont want to reproduce any more because that would dilute their value to collectors. We may have full sets made once the series comes to an end, but thats not certain, she said.
