Local Red Cross chapter kicks off fundraising campaign

PLATTSBURGH The North Country chapter of the American Red Cross has announced a major development initiative calling on financial support of area residents. Kelly C. Donoghue, president of the chapters board of directors, said the chapter is implementing a development campaign to raise $100,000 in the next year. To kick off the campaign, Donoghue said the chapter has been given the opportunity to receive $25,000 from the American Red Cross service area, but needs to match the grant with $25,000 by the end of the month. We have raised over $15,000 in the past couple of weeks and need to raise the other $10,000 within the next two weeks, Donoghue stated. Otherwise, the chapter will not receive the matching grant. Donoghue said members of the board are contacting various individuals, businesses, and civic organizations in Clinton, Franklin and northern Essex counties requesting support of the chapter in this effort. Jeanie D. Roberts, the chapters executive director, said the fundraising effort begun with the matching grant offer kicks off the major development initiative to support the chapter. We have very seldom appealed to the public like this, but it we have many services that we offer through the chapter, she said. We do not want to see any of those services curtailed or reduced. While board members will continue to make their requests, Donoghue said others can make a contribution to the chapter by sending tax-deductible contributions in care of the North Country Chapter of the American Red Cross to 13 Guy Way, Plattsburgh N.Y. 12901, or by calling the chapter office at 561-7280. Donoghue said chapter board members are willing to meet with individuals, groups and other organizations to discuss the many services available and options to support the Red Cross. Its a common acceptance that in times of crisis, the Red Cross will be there for you, said Donoghue. Together, we can change a life.
