TeenFest will bring positive messages to youth

ESSEX JUNCTION A new, two-day event aimed at teens is coming to the Champlain Valley Exposition on May 31-June 1. Organizers announced that the TeenFest Vermont weekend of fun will feature exhibitors, giveaways, interactive activities, demonstrations, a fashion show, live art installation, sports celebrities, dancing, great food and more. There will also be a Lounge Area featuring DDR, Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Wii and other video games sponsored by local businesses. TeenFest Vermont is a first-of-its-kind event in Vermont highlighting and focusing on Vermont teens, explained event organizer Sue Duke at the official announcement of the new event on Monday at Champlain Valley Exposition. Teens are an under-served market in Vermont and we want to change that by offering them a fun-filled weekend, and honoring their special contributions to the well-being of our state. Highlights of TeenFest Vermont include demos/autograph signings by the 5boro Skateboard team from New York City, and a dance party Saturday and Sunday from 6 to 8p.m. featuring celebrity DJ and movie star Efren Ramirez who starred as Pedro in Napoleon Dynamite. Organizers also addressed parents concerns about creating a safe environment for teens to have fun in. This event is alcohol and drug free and there will not be in-and-out privileges during the event. There is so much to do and have fun with at TeenFest that were confident teens will spend the entire day enjoying it, Duke said. The show is open noon to 8 p.m. on both days. Tickets are $4 a day in advance or $5 at the door. Two-day tickets are available for $7 in advance. Call Kelly at 802-872 9000 ext. 19 or email kelly@teenfestvt.com to purchase in advance. Full details and schedule updates available at www.teenfestvt.com. A portion of all ticket proceeds from TeenFest will be donated to local non-profit organizations that serve teens, including the Vermont Coalition of Teen Centers. TeenFest Vermont is produced by Williston Publishing and Promotions. It is sponsored in part by Comcast, the Buzz, Vault, BANG, Vermont Tech, VSAC, Talent Skatepark and Contois Music.
