Lake George pitchers confound opponents

LAKE GEORGE The Lake George High Schools softball and baseball teams both coasted to victory Monday on the strength of their pitching. Starting off her first year as lead pitcher for the Warriors, Sophomore sensation Katelyn Callahan kept the Salem Generals swinging at air Monday for about an hour, while Warrior pitcher Mike Tirri recorded a no-hitter for the boys. Callahan struck out 20 of 21 batters, demonstrating what many years of practice throws in her basement can produce: blistering speed and a confounding variety of pitches for opponents to deal with. Callahan and her crew beat the Lady Generals 19-1 after they overcame a potential shutout in the 7th inning by connecting with a triple which was converted to a run because of an overthrow by Lake George. For the boys, Tirri a senior struck out 11 in a 9-1 victory, allowing one unearned run against the Generals. Tirri also hit a triple, aided by teammates Conor Dunn, a senior, and Joe Robertson, a junior, who both notched doubles. For the girls, Callahan hit a home run, aided by triples slugged by junior Brittany Cracco, freshman Taylor Dawson and sophomore Brittany Ramos. Girls Coach Kelly Collins said she was pleased with her teams performance Monday afternoon in The Dome in Queensbury. Secure with a skilled pitcher, the team has been working on their batting, Collins said, particularly the ability to adjust to varying speeds of pitchers they're likely to be faced with this year. Collins said that Callahan has the fastest throw of any pitcher shes coached in her five or six years at Lake George. Im looking forward to this season, she said, smiling.
