Ham radio operators can help out

To the editor: In Ticonderoga we have an excellent volunteer fire department that always goes above and beyond to serve this community. I think that as a community we are very proud of them. I think it is time the some of the community gave back. It is time for the amateur radio or ham radio operators to think about lending a hand in times of emergency. This happens in many communities across the United States. On March 14, 2008, Atlanta was struck by an EF-2 tornado which destroyed many home and businesses. Amateur radio operators passed messages, helped direct emergency care where needed and helped with welfare checks. There are many things amateur radio operators can do to help local emergency services agencies. There are quite a few licensed hams in Ticonderoga and the surrounding community. I think we are one resource that gets over looked all to often. Thank you. Daniel Towne Ticonderoga
