Middlebury Union High School students were among the top champs at the 25th Annual MATHCOUNTS Competition held March 22 at Vermont Technical College in East Randolph. Team winners First Place: Middlebury Union Middle School coached by Diane Guertin. Team members: Will Conlon, Sam Lessing, Neil Guertin and Stuart Guertin. Second Place: Williston Central School coached by Laura Meyer. Team members: Sam Brown, Liam Kelley, Conor McQuiston, and Gregory Meyerm Third Place: Frederick H. Tuttle Middle School coached by John Radimer. Team members; Austin Goddard, Neharika Khandavalli, Kevin Wang and Cody Yu. Fourth Place: Rutland Middle School coached by Josh Bunker. Team members: Kate Candon, David Cohen, Ren_Cruise and Josh Wight. Top individual winners First: Kevin Wang of Frederick H. Tuttle Middle School Second: Stuart Guertin of Middlebury Union Middle School. Third: Neil Guertin of Middlebury Union Middle School Fourth: Kate Candon or Rutland Middle School Top 2 countdown winners First: Kevin Wang of Frederick H. Tuttle Middle School Second: Neil Guertin of Middlebury Union Middle School . Twelve teams of sixth through eighth grade students from all over Vermont competed individually and in teams in written and fast-paced oral matches. Subjects included geometry, probability, statistics, algebra and factorials. A total of 89 students competed for the four top individual honors, who will go on to represent Vermont at the national competition in Denver Colorado, May 8-11, along with the coach of the first-placed team, Diane Guertin, of MUHS.
