Sentinel harrier tops state's leading runners

Lee Berube of Ticonderoga lived up to his billing at the Section X Invitational in Norwood Sept. 23.

Berube, the top-ranked runner in the state, easily won the varsity III race. The race attracted all the top teams in the state since the course will host the state championship race later this season.

Berube was clocked in 16 minutes, 21 seconds. He won by nearly a minute.

As a team, the Sentinels finished fourth with 108 points. Tully of Section II won with 34 points.

Brendan Carberry was 15th for the Sentinels, followed by Mike Lonergan 25th, Jay Berube 32nd, Jared Best 35th, Eain Tierney 52nd and Alex Walters 60th.

In the girls race, Ticonderoga finished eighth with 190 points. Norwood-Norfolk won with 54.

Katie Karkoski paced the Sentinels, finishing 33rd.

Miranda Ross was 39th, Amber Perkins 48th and Rachel Ward 72nd for Ticonderoga.

Sentinels win

Ticonderogas boys cross country team remained undefeated, sweeping a pair of Champlain Valley Athletic Conference meets Sept. 18.

The Sentinels beat Saranac Lake, 20-39, and Saranac, 15-48.

Lee Berube led the way for Ti, winning the 5-kilometer race in 16 minutes, 35 seconds.

Brendan Carberry was second for Ti, followed by Mike Lonergan fourth, Jay Berube sixth, Jared Best seventh, Matt Nolan 10th and Josh Cook 11th.

In girls action, Ticonderoga lost to Saranac, 15-50, and Saranac Lake, 15-50.

Katie Karkoski paced the Sentinels, finishing 16th in 24:40.

Amber Perkins was 21st, Miranda Ross 25th, Brittany Holt 32nd, Brittney LaVoie 37th, Colleen Walls 42nd and Rachel Ward 44th.

Ti remains unbeaten

Ticonderoga remained undefeated in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference boys cross country action Sept. 25.

The Sentinels beat Beekmantown, 21-36, and Northeastern Clinton, 19-42.

Lee Berube led Ti, winning the 3.1-mile race in 17 minutes, 49 seconds.

He was followed by Brendan Carberry second, Jay Berube fifth, Mike Lonergan, seventh, Jared Best ninth, Josh Cook 12th, Eain Tierney 13th and Alex Walters 15th.

Ticonderoga beat Chazy, 23-32, in girls action and lost to Beekmantown, 24-35, and NCCS, 19-44.

Katie Karkoski finished second to lead the Sentinels.

Amber Perkins took 13th and Miranda Ross 14th for Ti.
