North Country Outreach Center announces autumn activities

NORTH CREEK North Country Outreach Center is excited to announce that GED classes will resume on Monday, Nov. 5. Classes will be held every other Monday throughout the fall, and students may join at any time. Are you ready to quit smoking? Glens Falls Hospital will be traveling to NCOC to offer a FREE six-week Smoking Cessation program beginning Monday, Oct. 15. The support group will meet from 5:00-6:00 on Mondays. A free luncheon and 15 Minute Nutrition Workshop will be held at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 23. Nutritionist Kerry Leary will be with us to discuss the benefits of adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet. Bring home a free gift!

On Wednesday, Oct. 24, the USDA will hold a Money Smart Workshop designed to help renters become homeowners. In addition to basic banking, borrowing, and budgeting information, the workshop will cover the benefits of owning your own home vs. renting, how to determine how much mortgage you can afford, how to create a budget & make your money grow and how to read a credit report and identify ways to start repairing your credit. The workshop will begin at 6:30. NCOC trained budget counselors will also be on hand if participants would like to arrange for private counseling after the workshop. On Tuesday, Oct. 30 Bill Brigham will be coming from Albany to conduct a special Entrepreneurs Workshop on everything you need to know to start your own business. Bill has been Director of the Small Business Development Center, University at Albany during the last eight years. The center offers no-cost, one-to-one counseling: assisting start-up and existing businesses in developing business plans and financial statements and identifying appropriate sources of funding. Also, Bill serves as an adjunct professor for the Graduate School of Business at the University at Albany. The workshop will begin at 6:30 pm. Calling all Geeks! The North Country Outreach Center now has high speed Internet Access, and we are looking for some help refurbishing old computers on Friday and Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend! If you can help, or if you have computers to donate, please call Andi McKee at 251-2299!
