A Pandoras box was cited by Highway Superintendent Gary Clark when asked about the Alder Bridge reconstruction. They have only until Oct. 15 to finish the project because one can not work over trout streams after that date. But he can not drive his construction trucks over the Trout Brook Road bridge until it is reconstructed due to weight limits. He and Supervisor Monroe will see what pressure can be brought to bear on the county.
Progress is being made on the Loon Lake Resident Septic Tank program, the dock, the beach restrooms and the dam engineering study.
There was a long discussion with maps and statistics of the Timber Lodge Estates sub-division because the developer has not built the road promised per development plans and needed by the property owner there. This was finally tabled to executive session.
The Eastman junkyard case is now in litigation. A search warrant resulted in a notice of violation that the property owner is contesting.
The owner of the Glendale property, which has unsafe buildings, is applying with the town for a New York State Restoration Grant for demolition. An inspection is already scheduled.
Also the Town of Chester is in the initial stages of buying foreclosed property through Warren County, transferring it to a non-profit group called the Community Trust, and leasing it to residents for affordable housing. This is an alternative method of offering affordable housing as opposed to clustered units as in North Creek.
Finally, a compromise has been reached between Word of Life and the Town of Chester regarding its tax obligations. Due to a new case in Long Island that Word of Life cited, it wanted to lower its payments to the town in lieu of taxes from approximately $100,000 to $35,000. The town has been forced to accept this amount, which impacts other residents taxes. But Word of Life will in turn pay its fair share for town services such as fire protection and water.
The Town of Chester initial budget planning session for 2008 will be held Thursday October 3.
