The next generation in adult living-Part 1

Beldock established the Shelburne Bay Senior Living Community at 185 Pine Haven Shores Rd. in Shelburne in the 1990s. This 65-apartment facility is for seniors who want to maintain an active, independent lifestyle within a managed retirement community. Shelburne Bay was the proof-of-concept for the grander Lodge at Otter Creek project.

The Lodge at Otter Creek broke ground in summer 2006 and progress on the site has been rapid to date. The multi-story, natural wood-sided main building, nestled behind woodland, can only be seen from Creek Road. The landscaped approach to the communitys main gate at 350 Lodge Rd., located just off Middle Road, will be tasteful and low key.

According to Beldock, the Lodge at Otter Creek is modeled after Shelburne Bay in both design and services.

We have studied the market and it is clear that there is a demand in Middlebury and throughout Addison County for appropriate and dignified housing for older adults, Beldock said. Too many seniors in this market cannot find suitable housing and services. Middlebury and the surrounding area have attracted families who have parents from out of the area in need of housing and some assistance; it is often this situation that creates the demand for senior housing.
