The Mount Saint Joseph Mounties were in action last Saturday too, seeking their first win of the 2007 season, but they wouldnt get it. The BFA-St. Albans Bobwhites playing in front of their hometown fans were to much for the Mounties, sending them home winless at 0 - 4 after administering a 27 - 6 thrashing. The lone Mounty score came in the fourth quarter when they were trailing 27 - 0. Quarterback Will Hadeka connected with Richie Kussel for a 25 yard touchdown pass.
The Poultney Blue Devils dropped a heartbreaker last Saturday in Hinesburg to the CVU Redhawks 27 - 20. It was a see saw type battle in which Poultney was never behind until the end. The Blue Devils jumped out to a 7 - 0 lead when Ricky Ross scored from two yards out late in the first quarter. But CVU answered with a scoring drive capped off by a two-yard touchdown run by Jake Nealy to cut the lead to 7 - 6. Ryan Davenport then finished a Poultney second quarter scoring drive with a touchdown run that put the Blue Devils on top 14 - 6.
But the lead was short lived as the Redhawks would find the end zone again before the half and nail the two point conversion, tying the game at 14 - 14 at the half. Ross would then score his second touchdown of the day on a 20-yard run giving Poultney back the lead 20 - 14, but this lead literally lasted just a few seconds. CVUs Mark Talley returned the ensuing kickoff seventy yards for the game tying touchdown. Then with just over two minutes left in the game Talley picked off a pass and returned it 42 yards to give CVU the 27 - 20 win. Poultney will host the red hot Mill River Minutemen this Saturday at noon.
