Leaf People take to the highways

SHELBURNE Lots of people were disappointed when they didnt see any Leaf People waving at them on Shelburne highways and byways in the autumn of 2006.

One person who was disappointed decided to do something about it. Sue Pinney gathered the people from their winter storage and recruited lots of her friends to help with the big project in her garage.

For about fifteen years the mem- bers of the Shelburne Business and Professional Association had built the stick figures, dressed them in colorful castoff clothing and placed them along Route 7 and other main traffic arteries every fall to lend a note of friendly seasonal cheer.

Local residents enjoyed the sight, and tourists from afar inquired about the project and commented that Shelburne must be a friendly place since it had such cheery ambassadors.

Last year the SBPA, busy with its highly successful new Farmers Market project, did not have the folks available for the preparation and installation of the Leaf People. This year, though, thanks to Sue and her friends, the Leaf People are back.
