Morehouse, Arsenault prevail in Republican town board primary

JOHNSBURG And then there were two.

Frank Morehouse, Jr., and Eugene Arsenault placed first and second respectively in the three-way Republican town board primary on Tuesday. The two will represent the Republican Party in a four-way race for two Town Board seats in Novembers general election.

Joining Morehouse and Arsenault in the race are Marko Schmale and Ron Vanselow who each have the endorsement of the Democratic, Conservative and Smart Growth parties.

Morehouse tallied 144 votes in unofficial returns Tuesday while Arsenault received 138. Jean Comstock finished third with 74 votes.

Arsenault is a long-time incumbent will attempt to retain a seat on the board that he has held for more than 20 years. The other seat is the seat currently held by Alyce VanKeuren, who is not seeking re-election.

A third seat could turn over if incumbent board member Sterling Goodspeed succeeds in his attempt to become town supervisor. Long-time Supervisor Bill Thomas announced earlier this year that he is retiring.

Joining Goodspeed in the race for supervisor is Andrea McKee, the chairwoman of the towns Ski Bowl Park Committee. McKee has the endorsement of the Democratic, Conservative and Smart Growth parties.
