Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Two Brothers

OLMSTEDVILLE June 9, 2007 was not just another pleasant, sunny day at the Chestertown Fish and Game Club in Chestertown, NY. It was also the day and location where Cody Dunbar and his younger brother Brandon were officially recognized as Eagle Scouts, the highest honor in Scouting. Cody and Brandon (who hail from Olmstedville, in the Town of Minerva) had worked extremely hard to achieve this honor, and their pride in this effort was evident in both of these scouts; being an Eagle Scout is all about good citizenship.

A large crowd consisting of family, friends, and fellow scouts joined Cody and Brandon as they received their honors. In order to achieve the rank of Eagle, the brothers had to earn numerous merit badges (including both required and elective badges) and then plan, organize, and implement a worthy community service project. Codys choice was a substantial painting project that made great improvements to the Garnet Lake Firehouse in the Town of Johnsburg. Brandon chose to focus on rehabilitating and adding to the nature trail in a woodlot that is part of Minerva Central School in Olmstedville. Both projects required a tremendous amount of planning, coordination, and thought, and included the gathering of friends and helpers who would actually get the work done. The results of the work was outstanding, and were in keeping with the requirements set forth for what an Eagle Scout project needs to involve.

The Eagle Court of Honor was combined with the Chestertown Troop 30 Spring Court of Honor, which opened with the Troops Scoutmaster, Joe Klewicki, summarizing the great year enjoyed by all the scouts in the troop. John Bellini, the incoming Scoutmaster, then presented merit badges to all the scouts who had earned them followed by the recognition of scouts who had risen among the ranks of scouts. Joe Klewicki then closed the general Court of Honor by presenting special awards and offering closing comments.
