Avandia is a common drug used for diabetes. It is known to be unsafe in patients with advanced heart failure. Recently, as you may have heard in the news, long-term data suggests Avandia carries heart risk for patients who already have heart problems other than heart failure. In patients without diagnosed heart issues Avandia is considered a safe and very effective diabetes medication. If you are on Avandia and have heart problems talk to you provider about alternatives.
