Paint store in new locale

Expanding to fill the void created by the departure of Phinneys Paint and Decorating at 16 Creek Rd. is Countryside Carpet and Paint, founded in 1988.

Countryside owner Eric Denu of Bridport, VT, recently purchased Phinneys and is transforming it into a bigger, better Countryside. The store, presently at Creek Road and Route 7 locations, will expand to add Phinneys popular inventory including its flagship Benjamin Moore line of paints. Former owner George Phinney was part of the Benjamin Moore family paint dynasty.

Countryside started in the Marbleworks and we were there for 4 years, said Denu. We were 15 years at the Route 7 location so it was time to renovate and expand. Phinneys last owner was looking to sell, so it was a good opportunity for us to buy the business and property.

Denu said he prefers owning the business real estate as opposed to renting the store on Route 7 just north of the A&W drive-in.

Our focus is floor covering, paint, and more, he said.

Countryside is a member of the Addison County Chamber of Commerce as well as a member of the Flooring Network of New England and New York. As a flooring network member, Countryside has the buying power to compete head-to-head with Burlington and Rutlandarea outlets to benefit the local customer.

Joining Denu on the shop floor are his wife Janice Denu with a blended staff family from both stores including Steve White, Jim Needham, Chris Hanfield and Bronwyn Furgeson. Denu thinks hell need to add staff, too, at the new 7,500 square foot at 16 Creek Rd. store.
