TICONDEROGA MORIAH -- Irene M. Bessey, 88, formerly of Moriah, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, at the Moses Ludington Hospital in Ticonderoga.
Born April 29, 1919, at Ellenburg Depot, she was the daughter of Regina (Bessette) Daignault and Joseph Ernest Daignault. She was a longtime resident of Moriah, a devoted wife and mother, and, along with her husband, Orlando, owned and operated Hilltop store in Port Henry.
In later years, she was a resident of Lord Howe Estates in Ticonderoga and most recently a resident in the assisted living wing at Moses Ludington Hospital.
She was predeceased by her parents, five brothers, two sisters and her husband, Orlando R. Bessey.
Survivors are her children, Harold Bessey (Joan), Margie Voorhis (Bob), Dorothy Trombley (Floyd), all of Satsuma, Fla., Bea Brown of Rutland, Vt., Joyce Siegman of Indianapolis, Ind., Orlando Bessey Jr. of Salem, N.Y., and Linda Hall (Harold) of Waterford. She has 23 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Calling hours were held at the Harland Funeral Home, Main St., Port Henry, on Monday, Sept. 3, 2007. Services followed. Burial, beside her husband of 59 years, took place at Riverside Cemetery in Ellenburg Center, on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Leukemia Society.
