Elect Bud York for Sheriff

To the Editor:

Sheriff Clevelands budget has increased over 10 percent per year during his term in office, while the cost of living has increased two and one-half percent. Warren Countys new jail cost $18,000,000, while Washington Countys holds more inmates. Warren Countys population is 64,000, Washington Countys is 61,000.

The Warren County Sheriff Departments budget and employees are both much larger than Washington County. These are all very important when one considers the ever increasing county taxes and the ballooning county budget.

What I would like you to consider is the value of good judgement. When Larry Cleveland worked for the Queensbury Police Department, myself and a fellow state trooper responded to an assist with Queensbury for a burglary in progress at a market just past Queensbury High School. On arrival, we found the Queensbury police car running, with door open, the markets rear door broken into and shots being fired in the cornfield behind the market. Officer Cleveland had used bad judgement.

When Cleveland was deputy sheriff, he chased a vehicle through crowded village streets, crashing a vehicle, with a costly lawsuit ensuing.

Compare Bud Yorks record. I have worked with Bud and have observed him in difficult situations where he used good judgement. Bud has received numerous commendations for excellent investigative skills and good judgement. Warren County deserves a sheriff who uses good judgement. Please consider your choice carefully.
