Around the county

What a change in the weather from Friday to Sunday this past weekend, eh? Friday and Saturday were so warm one could hardly stand not to be in air conditioning and Sunday was so cold one had to wonder why they thought they ever needed it! We were involved in golf tournaments on both days and Im not sure which was more uncomfortable. The Saturday event, benefit of the Willsboro Fire Department, was won by my son and my husband and another twosome, so that was probably the most popular in our household, the weather not even considered! Sunday we volunteered to help out with the Golfers4 Freedom benefit at the Willsboro course. That event was very successful with approximately $2,000 being collected in support of our troops. With 9/11 facing us for yet another year, the day was especially meaningful.

As a region we should be very excited that Allegiant Air will begin flying out of Plattsburgh International Airport on November 16th! The one destination to Fort Lauderdale is an excellent start and if they do well, more destinations will be added, I am sure. We are voting (in case we ever get the opportunity!) that they add Orlando to the list!! Big Sky is also still out there and we say KUDOS to all who were involved in this monumental accomplishment!

The 30th annual Peru Applefest parade will be held on the Sept. 15. The theme this year is Looking Back in Time.

Congratulations to Ray Barnaby, Jr., who in his third trip to the golf course as a player, scored a hole in one at Twin Pines Golf course with witnesses that included Bill, Gary and Tim Barnaby.

The 10th annual Downs Syndrome Buddy Walk will be held on Sept. 16 at Melissa Penfield Park in Plattsburgh. There will be refreshments, music, door prizes, T-shirts and entertainment. Call 563-5553 for information.
