One patrol car is not enough

To the Editor:

Every week it seems we have another serious crime in Lake George Village. One week it is a drug dealer being robbed, the next week there is a fight in Shepard Park and someone displays a knife, and now another person is robbed right on Canada Street and another knife is displayed. Not to mention the constant talk of a gang in the village. Thank God we pay the Warren County Sheriffs Department $45,000 for extra police coverage. I welcome any extra police coverage, but at a closer look, are we really getting what we pay for? I have just learned for that extra money, we are getting nothing more than we received in police coverage last year, and on some nights, even less.

Last year, at night a patrol car was assigned to cover the towns of Lake George and Lake Luzerne and another was specifically assigned to Lake George Village. This year, the same car is assigned to Lake George, Lake Luzerne and the Lake George car is now assigned to the back streets of the village. It is the same car we got last year for free and it does the same exact thing except now it costs us extra.

Even if the Sheriff has 11 people working, we still only get the one car. Last year, we would have had another car assigned to us when so many are working, but not this year. I would ask Sheriff Cleveland to refund our money and would like to know if he is as great an administrator as he claims or just a great manipulator?
