NFL Picks: Henecker goes with ... gulp, the Cowgirls over the Phins

First a little housekeeping: You may have noticed only 12 of my picks for Week 1 appeared in last weeks issues. Well, these things happen in the newspaper business. For the record, here are the missing picks: Seattle 21, Tampa Bay 10; GIANTS 38, Dallas 0; Cincinnati 23, Baltimore17; and Arizona 9, San Francisco 7.

By the time you read this, Indianapolis will have defeated New Orleans in the season opener, and the first Sunday of the NFL season is about to arrive. Of course, the top story in football as I write this is the return of Michael Strahan to the New York Football Giants. My guess is hell get some significant playing time against the Cowgirls, and his return makes me feel even better about Big Blues chances this season.

The picks are coming in fast and furious this week. I do have a request for all of the participants this year: If possible, e-mail your picks and type in only your winners in a column (not in a paragraph). Im working with a program someone developed to try and automate the calculations, which will save me a ton of time and reduce the likelihood of mistakes on my part. Of course, faxed or mailed picks will still be accepted. Dont forget to include your name and phone number regardless of how you send in your picks, and you can find this column and pick sheet online at www.denpubs.com beginning Saturday mornings.

I wish I had a week of game viewing under my belt before having to pick for Week 2, but such is life. The game of the week will be San Diego\New England, and Im picking the Patsies at home. It kills me to do it, but Im taking the Girls over the Phins I really dont expect much from Miami this year. Of course, the Giants will continue their winning ways with a big win over Green Bay.

Welcome to our new pickers, good luck to all, and GO BIG BLUE!!!
