Minerva Newcomb boys varsity soccer, young but eager

NEWCOMB Watching Millie Winslows Minerva Newcomb boys varsity soccer squad workout Tuesday, one thing became evident.

If numbers matter, this years squad should provide competition for its foes. We have a nice group, Winslow said. We have

three international students who bring a lot to the team.

All told, fifteen athletes are lacing up the cleats this season for the Minerva Newcomb varsity squad two seniors, nine juniors

and four sophomores.

Winslow said shes counting on a nucleus of returning athletes to carry the squad, Sam Kelly on offense, Jonas June on defense and Devin Tokarz in goal. Add to that, all-league player Kevin Yardon and Winslow said she thinks her squad will give the other teams in the league a run.

We lost our goalie to graduation, Winslow said. So I took Devin Tokarz, my center fullback from last year and hes playing goalie.

In practice, Winslow is focusing on fundamentals.

Were working on a lot of team-building and conditioning, she said. I think were going to contend. But until I get them in a scrimmage, I wont really know.

Winslow said she expects Bolton to be strong as usual and believes Indian Lake/Long Lake will surprise a lot of people.

I think theyre going to be tough, she said.
