CVPH dedication honors local icons

"What worried him, Burke explained, "was that the best and brightest young people were fleeing to the city for a better life. He saw the rural areas losing to the city." Miner, a man of vision, foresaw disaster for his beloved childhood home and he took action. He saw three areas of need: jobs, education, and quality health care. He met all three needs by creating the Hearts of Life Farm leading the way in scientific and technological agriculture, funding the Chazy Central School, and the Physician's Hospital, now Champlain Valley Physician's Hospital.

Burke closed with heart felt thanks to those who have dedicated their careers to CVPH. "My thanks really go to the nurses, the physicians, the staff, the management and the board, for continuing to make the Miner vision come true by offering health care that is competitive with the best health care offered across the nation. Surely William and Alice Miner would smile down on their efforts," he said.

CVPH Chaplain, Father William Reamer, offered up a sincere prayer asking for God's blessing on the Miner MAB, employees and patients.

The guests were invited to tour the Historical Exhibit, the Pharmacy and the Laboratory. The Historical Exhibit began just inside the front door with a large framed historical retrospective of the Miner family and Miner Foundation influence on CVPH. There were also many historical photographs dispersed throughout the facility.

Across from the historical exhibit, a display case held items that will shortly be placed in a time capsule that will be buried near the Miner MAB. The contents of the time capsule planted in the former Nurses Residence Building that was razed to construct the Miner building were in the case. Many items from the Pharmacy, Lab, and Outpatient Cardiology which are located in the Miner MAB along with a list of all CVPH employees on the date of the groundbreaking, that days Press-Republican, current photos of the hospital and facility, and one of the invitations that were sent out to the donors for the dedication ceremony were also in the case. To the far right of the case, a bright yellow happy face doll with a construction hat smiled up at all the guests who looked in the case and embodied the emotion of the evening.
