Adirondack Distance Festival coming up

CHESTERTOWN Next weekend is the annual Adirondack Distance Festival which includes a weekend of road races culminating in the Adirondack Marathon and Half-Marathon on Sunday in Schroon Lake.

The races start at the Municipal Center on Saturday, Sept. 15 and all proceeds will benefit the Helpers Fund, a local group started in 1997 to provide financial assistance in the area of Warren and Essex counties to individuals and families facing difficult circumstances. In its first nine years, the fund was able to lend assistance to more than 200 families and individuals in the area.

This year is the ninth annul 5 and 10k races in Chestertown with a 9:30 a.m. start in front of the Chester Municipal Center. The course winds through Chestertown, and is relatively flat. Walkers are welcome to participate as well.

The races include divisions for both men and women, and a 5k school team fun run. Registration begins on Friday evening from 7 - 9 p.m. and Saturday, from 7 - 8:30 a.m. at the municipal center.

Awards will be given to the first, second and third place overall winners, 5k and 10k male and female as well as the first three runners in each age group. Runners will receive runners gift bags and refreshments following the races.
