Vergennes Union High School student to slam the airwaves

COLCHESTER -- On Wednesday, Aug. 29, Katie Jordan performed on the acclaimed weekly radio program From the Top.

Jordan, the principal horn player for the Vermont Youth Orchestra, is a senior at Vergennes Union High School and has been playing with the VYO for 6 years now. She has also performed with the Vermont Youth Sinfonia and the Vermont Youth Philharmonia.

Jordan hails from a rich musical background and a childhood that involved numerous trips to concerts with her parents.

From the Top is taped before a live studio audience at the Chandler Music Hall, in Randolph, and is widely considered to be one of National Public Radios most popular programs. Jordans performance will be heard by an estimated 750,000 listeners. Christopher ORiley is the programs host.

The Aug. 29 recording of From the Top is slated to air in November on Vermont Public Radio.

Over the course of the summer Jordan stayed at the National Symphony Orchestras Kennedy Center Summer Music Institute, where she performed in two orchestras, a chamber ensemble, and a brass quintet.

This fall at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts, Jordan will be a featured soloist with the VYO and will play Strausss Horn Concerto No. 1 on Sept. 23.
