Two teams kick off 2007 campaign

HINESBURG It took a difficult shot from the left side of the net for Mount Abraham to beat the Champlain Valley Union field hockey team last Wednesday.

Mt. Abes Jade Dingler found the goal with three minutes left in overtime, giving Mt. Abe a 1-0 victory in their season opener.

Jocelyn Stowell made seven saves during the game for the Redhawks.

Redhawks soccer rolls
A big second half that included six goals lifted the lady Redhawks to a 7-0 victory over Rice Memorial last Tuesday.

The CVU girls soccer team looked as if they were ready to repeat last seasons success by spreading the ball around on offense, with seven players scoring on seven goals.

Haleigh Smith opened up scoring as the first half winded to an end, with a goal off an assist from Erika Gobeille

Kendra Wilkins scored next right as the second half of play began.

Other goal scorers for CVU included Gobielle, assisted by Angie Dunkling.

Senior Captain Elizabeth Proutt scored an unassisted goal, prompting Rice to replace goalie Allie Piper with Emily Pijanowksi.

Katherine Goller, Asia Sienko and Killary Boss all scored as well, with assists from Jackie Wool and Goller.

Abbie Senesac had four saves for CVU.

CVU improved to 2-0 on Thursday with a win over South Burlington.
