Ti High alumni honored

TICONDEROGA The Ticonderoga Alumni Association has recognized four of its own members.

Rick Belden and Peter Lawson were presented with Distinguished Alumni Awards and Sylvia Boyce and Dan Crossman received Special Service Awards during ceremonies at the Ticonderoga Country Club recently.

Were very happy to be able to recognize our graduates, said Joyce Cooper of the alumni association. Theyre very deserving.

Jim OBryan, Ti town justice, served as master of ceremonies.

Lawson, who now lives in Naples, Fla., graduated from Ti High in 1979. He went on to graduate from the University of Notre Dame and received a masters degree from Duke University.

Beginning work as a hospital staff employee, Lawson is now executive vice president of hospital operations for Health Management Associates, an investor-owned health care firm. He has been recognized by Modern Healthcare and the Orlando Business Journal for his success.

Lawson, a cancer survivor, is active in the American Cancer Society Cansurmount and Relay for Life. He is also active for the March of Dimes and is a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. Through the American College of Health Care Executives, he is a career mentor.

He is also active in activities at his childrens school, in his church and supports the University of Notre Dame Endowment for Irish Studies.

Belden, who now lives in North Carolina, is a Hague native and Ti High alumnus. He also graduated from SUNY-Cortland.

An outstanding athlete in high school, Belden played pro football briefly and pursued a career in personal fitness.

Belden went on to become the Worlds Strongest man in 2000. He earned recognition in the Guiness World Book of Records in 2002 and 2004 for his feats of strength.

While competing in strongman events, Belden was also succeeding in business. He formed Bell Consulting Group and became co-owner of a Golds Gym. Since that time he has served as regional manager for Life Fitness/Hammer Strength, founded Bellmark Properties real estate development company, been regional manager for Lifestyle Family Fitness Centers and become general partner of TNT Nutrition.
