Thornton B. Penfield III

SILVER BAY Thornton B. Penfield III, a lifelong summer resident of Silver Bay, NY, died at the age of 73 at Albany Medical Center Hospital on August 21,2007. He leaves his wife, Diane and a son Richard Starr and 4 grandchildren, along with a sister Charlotte P. Gosselink, and large number of Penfield relatives. Thorny was a professor of English at UNO, SUNO, and other institutions in New Orleans where he made his home since 1965. Thorny was an enthusiastic promoter of New Orleans musicians and their music, Jazz Fest and part owner in Tipitina's. A Memorial Service is planned for September 8th at Silver Bay and a second Celebration of his Life will take place in New Orleans at a later date.
